The Bangalore Metro which is popularly known as “Namma Metro”, is quite a large metro rail network in terms of stations<\/a>. It is, in fact, the fourth longest operational metro system in India.

This metro system covers 42 stations and is spread across a length of 41.3 km. There are three phases for the development of the Namma Metro. Till date, only the first phase of the metro has been completed. This first phase of Namma Metro has two lines – Purple Line and Green Line.

Let’s get into the details of the different phases one by one.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phase-I<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As already mentioned, Phase I comprises of two lines (purple and green) which spans over a length of 42.3 km. Around 1\/5th of the distance is underground and the rest is elevated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phase II<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The proposed Phase II of Bangalore Metro will cover a length of over 73 km. Around 1\/5th of the distance will be underground and the rest will be elevated. This also means that there will be 61 new stations on new lines (red line, blue line and yellow line).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phase II A<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 2016, there was a proposal to add 17 kilometers to the Phase II of the project. This was intended to connect Silk Board to K.R Puram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phase III<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Phase III of Namma Metro will cover over a distance of 127 km. Two new lines will be added to the Bangalore Metro which will cover the Outer Ring Road on the eastern and western side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the metro is still at a growing stage, there have been speculations that once the whole work gets completed, the Namma metro will be one of the largest metro networks in India. If things go well, it could even become India\u2019s largest metro rail network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
