The Kodava Samaja suggests naming a metro station near Kamaraj Road to honor the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, due to its proximity to army land and Cariappa Memorial Park.
The Kodava Samaja has proposed to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) that a metro station near Kamaraj Road be named after Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
Members of the Kodava community, including the secretary Vivek Muthanna, met with Maheshwar Rao, the Managing Director of BMRCL, to formally submit this request.
Vivek Muthanna stated, “We have been urging the government to name a metro station after Field Marshal Cariappa to honour him. We had submitted a representation to BMRCL a year ago and now we have requested that an upcoming station near Kamaraj Road on the Pink Line, which will connect Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, be named after him. This line is slated to open by mid-2025.“
The Kodava Samaja emphasized that the proposed station’s location near army land and the Cariappa Memorial Park makes it a suitable tribute to the distinguished military leader, who was a native of Kodagu and from the Kodava community.
