With new lines being added and comprehensive soil studies starting soon, the project aims to enhance city connectivity by 2028.
The Karnataka government has green-lighted Phase III of the Bengaluru Namma Metro, planning to extend the network by an additional 44.65 kilometers at a cost of ₹15,611 crore, with completion targeted for 2028. This expansion will include two new elevated metro lines. The first, measuring 32.5 kilometers, will connect J.P. Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura, while the second, 12.5 kilometers long, will extend from Hosahalli to Kadabagere.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials have announced that geotechnical investigations will begin shortly. These studies are crucial for assessing the suitability of the soil and rocks where the new lines will be built, ensuring the stability and durability of the construction. The investigation will cost around ₹6 crore.
“The geotechnical assessments are essential to determine the right depth and structure of the metro foundations, which will support the overall safety and integrity of the metro lines,” said a BMRCL official.
The state government will provide 80-85% of the total cost for this large-scale project. The central government will fund the remainder. The project has received the necessary approvals, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been completed.
