The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that the highly anticipated airport metro line will launch in two phases, with the first segment from Kempegowda International Airport to Hebbal expected to be operational by mid-2026, followed by the KR Puram extension by October 2026.
Bengaluru’s commuters can look forward to improved connectivity as the Namma Metro’s long-awaited airport line is on track for completion.
The first phase, linking Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Terminal to Hebbal, is projected to open between June and September 2026. Following this, the Hebbal to KR Puram stretch is expected to be operational by October 2026.
The entire route will span approximately 37 kilometers, featuring 17 stations, and is set to cost around ₹9,616.51 crores (approximately $1.2 billion).
This development aims to facilitate faster travel for airport-bound passengers, allowing them to bypass tolls associated with road travel.
Despite some construction challenges, including slow progress near the Indian Air Force station in Yelahanka, BMRCL is committed to meeting these timelines.
The new metro line is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and enhance overall public transport in Bengaluru.
